This book is written as a scientific and practical effort to address a major challenge in the field of psychotherapy: how to trace the spiritual roots of mental disorders that are classified in modern terms. So far, contemporary psychology—especially that which refers to the DSM (Diagnostic and Statistical Manual of Mental Disorders)—categorizes mental illnesses based on observable external symptoms. Meanwhile, in Islam, the most dangerous disease is the disease of the qalb (heart), an inner illness that remains hidden yet becomes the source of all outward corruption.
The Prophet ﷺ said:
“Indeed, there is a piece of flesh in the body; if it is sound, the whole body is sound. And if it is corrupt, the whole body is corrupt. Indeed, that is the heart.”
